Tien Son Cave in Quang Binh is 980m long, about 400m from the cave entrance, people will encounter a deep abyss of about 10m and then a nearly 500m long underground cave. Because the terrain of the cave is somewhat dangerous, when coming here, visitors are only allowed to visit the outside 400m from the cave entrance.
According to the scientific research report of the British Cave Research Association (BCRA), Tien Son Cave was formed tens of millions of years ago, created by water flowing through and then gradually hollowing out and eroding Ke Bang limestone mountain.
Over time, the geological formations that this mountain range may have been raised or lowered caused the rocks to collapse and block the flow, creating Tien Son Cave above and Phong Nha Cave with an underground river flowing through. Perhaps that is why these two caves are known as “twin caves”.

Legend of Tien Son Cave, Quang Binh

According to the story, this place is associated with the story of a brave young man and a fairy who kept the heavenly sword.
The orphan fisherman had a strong body and heroic spirit. When he learned that there was a water monster ravaging the people, and that the water monster had extraordinary power and could only be killed with the sword of Heaven. Hearing that a fairy was keeping the sword, he went everywhere to search for it.
After a long journey, he finally found the cave, and took advantage of the fairy’s inattention to take the sword and kill the monster, eliminating two people. When he completed his mission, he returned the sword and told the story, and the fairy sympathized with him. The two fell in love, and the cave became their rendezvous.
Later, the Jade Emperor learned the truth and sent someone down to the north to bring the fairy back. When she returned, the fairy was depressed and sad, while the young man was waiting anxiously. Touched by their love and loyalty, the Jade Emperor allowed the fairy to return to the lower world to tie the knot with the young man. At the same time, the Jade Emperor also gave a seal by transforming the cave where the two lived, which is today’s Tien Son cave, into a landscape resembling a heavenly palace as a blessing for the two. Perhaps that is why many people liken this place to a paradise cave or a fairyland cave.
