1. Khau Pha Pass
Referring to the beautiful scenery in Mu Cang Chai, we must mention Khau Pha pass with one of the most winding and steep passes in Vietnam. Khau Pha Pass has its starting point as the intersection of Highway 32 and Highway 279, continuously connecting Chau Pass in front of it and Vach Kim Pass behind on Highway 32. From Yen Bai city, follow Highway 32 for about 5 minutes. After an hour, passing through Tu Le commune, Khau Pha pass in Mu Cang Chai district appears in the middle of a plateau surrounded by overlapping mountains. The winding mountain passes between old forests still have pristine features and the terraced fields of the H’Mong and Thai ethnic groups.

Khau Pha Pass road has up to two thirds of gravel road, bumpy and gravel, only the section passing through Tu Le has been made a little more beautiful. Throughout the length of the pass, there are dozens of sharp turns. On cloudy days, the pass is especially dangerous for drivers because the pass has no barriers or any warning signs. The pass road has deteriorated a lot because it is not repaired regularly, and is easily susceptible to landslides and subsidence because it is located in a red basalt soil area, a weak soil system. In addition, there is a constant danger of lurking rocks from high mountains that can fall at any time. There are few large trucks traveling on this road because the steepness of the pass makes the travel time too long.
