Xim Vang Son La is a commune of Bac Yen district, located in Ta Xua nature reserve. With its hazy beauty and misty mist, Xim Vang is likened to Hoang Su Phi of Ha Giang. The location has terraced fields stretching and winding along the hillsides. Xim Vang commune now has 7 villages, which is also where most Mong ethnic people live.

Xim Vang has a cool climate all year round, with an average summer temperature of 15 – 23 degrees Celsius. Due to the rugged terrain with winding roads, high and majestic mountains, and streams flowing from the great forest, Xim Vang has a wild, peaceful and poetic atmosphere. In particular, this place is extremely famous for its beautiful terraced fields. These prosperous terraces not only bring prosperity to the people here, but are also the intoxicating drink that makes tourists from all over the world fall in love.

Looking at the sparkling valleys of terraced fields, few people know that, more than 40 years ago, Xim Vang was just a barren, sparse land, with a difficult and chaotic life; At that time, the Mong people here only knew how to cultivate according to the practice of “poking holes to find seeds”, starving all year round. However, thanks to the correct policy and timely advocacy efforts of the government, Xim Vang people have firmly believed in the work of reclaiming terraced fields to grow wet rice.

When autumn comes and the rice is ripe in the terraced fields on the mountain slopes, the whole of Xim Vang is filled with shimmering colors. Along with the unique characteristics of the highland communes of Bac Yen such as the cloud paradise, Ta Xua tea, Hang Dong dinosaur forest or the lush green camellia forest, the terraced fields are gradually becoming a unique tourism product of Xim Vang.
