Lung Po flagpole stands tall in the middle of the border region
Have you ever been curious about the name Lung Po? Lung Po flagpole (Long Po: Dragon Cha in the local language) is located in Lung Po 1 village, A Mu Sung commune (Bat Xat), 70km northwest of Lao Cai city. This place is both the location of border marker No. 92 and the confluence of the Red River and Lung Po stream. The two streams of water merge together to create picturesque blue and pink colors. Feng shui in the homeland contributes to defining the Vietnamese country. The location of the Lung Po flagpole now was originally A Mu Sung border station. On March 26, 2016, Lao Cai Provincial Youth Union started construction and completed it on December 16, 2017. On an area of 2,100m2, Lung Po flagpole includes the main flagpole and the exterior with items such as lawn, parking lot, fence, and operating house.
The flagpole with its details is also very interesting. The 31.43m high flagpole body represents the height of the 3,143m high Mount Fansipan (Sa Pa), known as the “Roof of Indochina” and “Roof of Vietnam”. The flag has an area of 25 m2, symbolizing 25 ethnic groups in Lao Cai. To get to the top of the flagpole, you must pass 125 steps designed in a spiral shape.
